COMMISSIONER SMITH’S VISIT The territorial leader of the Salvation Army, Commissioner J. Evan Smith, addressed a meeting held m the Salvation Army Citadel last night. A welcome to the Commissioner was expressed hv the Mayor, Mr E. C. Bathurst, on behalf of the citizens, hv Sergeant-Major Albert Allan, on behalf of the local Corps, and also by Adjutant P. L. Smith. Items presented during the service were “What the Angels Sing,” by the women’s voice party. “Refresh Our Souls,” by the Songster Brigade; while the band played the selection “Divine Communion.” The Commissioner spoke of his experiences travelling to England to attend the High Council, which was called for the purpose of electing the new General of the Salvation Army, and of his impressions of London today. The Commissioner was supported by Major E. H. Riseley (Divisional Commander) and Mrs Major Riseley, and also by Major Stella Pickering, of Christchurch.
