SIAM PROTESTS

Siamese Government sources state that French forces to-day crossed the River Mekong border from Indo-China into Siam. Crossings are reported to have been made at two points at Nagom, in the Pantom district north-east of Siam, against light resistance by Siamese police. The French bombarded objectives before advancing and, after occupying Thabo, marched toward Nangkai, 300 miles north-north-east of Bangkok. A Government communique revealed that Siam has informed the United Nations of the French action, and has also appealed to the British and American Legations in Bangkok for intervention.
The French, it is stated, entered Siamese territory to demand the return of arms allegedly carried out by French refugees who crossed the frontier during the “recent internal trouble in French Indo-China.”
Reuter’s Bangkok correspondent says that the French set fire to the village of Tabor within five miles of Nongkai.
