LOOKING BACK
FIFTY YEARS SYNE (From the “Guardian,” Dec 31, 1895) Boxing Day at Rakaia—The usual sports and horse races were held in the Domain at Rakaia on Boxing Day. The weather was everthing that could be desired and a very large' and orderly crowd assembled. The gate money amounted to £4O, and some 35 passes for families and 17 passes for horses and riders were issued.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (From the “Guardian,” Dec 31, 1920) Freezing Works—Much satisfaction has been expressed by farmers, that the Fairfield Freezing Works will reopen on January 10, as large numbers of prime lambs are bound to go back in quality if the dry weather continues. The lower part of the County is extremely dry. It is years since feed has been so scarce at this time of the year.
