. A letter of cheer was directed by the General Committee of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday to Colonel J. Findlay, Who is ill.
A. motion of sympathy withJMr G. Letham in the death of his wife was carried by the General Committee of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday.
Mrs May Moffatt, of Ashburton, will give a studio recital from 3YA at 8.45 this evening. She will sing “The Linden Tree’’ and “Peace” (Schubert) and “Children’s Pleasures” and “The Desire of Spring” (Mozart).
The resignation of the harbourmaster at Auckland, Captain H. H. Sergeant, to date from March 31, 1946, was accepted with regret at a special meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board. Captain Sergeant completed 40 years’ service with the Board on September 25. The same date marked the 50th anniversary of his first going to sea as an apprentice under sail, and the 33rd anniversary of his appointment as harbourmaster at Auckland. A decision to grant Captain Sergeant 12 months’ leave of absence on full pay from the date of his retirement was made at the meeting of the Board. —P.A.
