MURPHY BEATS CLARKE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, December 17. Bos Murphy (Hiitt Valley), a welterweight, beat Bobby Clarke, an Australian middle-weight, by a technical knock-out in the ninth round at the Wellington Town Hall to-night. Murpliy did the loading, and for the greater part of the bout caused the Australian to keep up a nimble sidestep. In the eighth round both men took counts of nine, the results of left

rips to the body. Murphy made his run in the ninth round, and swarmed all over Clarke, who at last went down with a savage left rip to the body. He was unable to continue, and the referee, Mr Phin Stone, stepped in and awarded the bout to Murphy. Clarke scaled list 211 b, and Murphy lOst 7ilb.
