TRIP IN OWN PLANE
FARMER FINDS IT COSTLY (P.A.) PALMERSTON N., Dec. 17. When James Robert Franklin, farmer, Porangahau, flew his privatelyowned plane from the farm landing field to Palmerston North he did so without having had the machine certificated as airworthy, also without holding a current pilot’s licence. In the Magistrate’s Court he was fined £25 on the first charge and £5 on the second.
Franklin’s explanation was that he flew the machine to Palmerston North in order to get it certificated and he had to do three hours’ flying before he could get his pilot’s licence renewed. He could have got an engineer to visit the farm but that was too slow a method.
