MR BEVIN EXPLAINS TERM (Rec. 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 16. Mr Ernest Bevin, in a letter to Mr S. S. Silverman (Labour M.P. for Nelson) gave an assurance that when he used the, phrase “Jewish home” in his statement on Palestine it was only an abbreviation of “National home for Jewish people,” as used in the Balfour Declaration and in the preamble to the mandate for Palestine. Mr Bevin added that the Government had no intention of evading its obligations under those instruments.
