REPAIRS URGENT

ASPHALT AT TINWALD SCHO.OL PATH BELOW GROUND LEVEL Following receipt of information from the Education Board that it would be some time before it would be able to repair the asphalt at the School, the Tinwald School Committee last evening decided to communicate with the Board stressing the urgency of the work. The chairman (Mr J. Lowery) said the path to the open-air room was, below the level of the ground, and even after a light rain children could not walk dry-shod on it The headmaster (Mr O. D. Sewell) reported that the roll number was 141, an increase of five on last month. Attendances generally had been very good. A notice hoard and a cupboard had been erected. It was reported by the Visiting Committee (Messrs D. Smith and R. Harkness) that the grounds were in excellent order, the caretaker (Mr Stone) and the. headmaster and pupils having done a lot. of work in this respect. It was arranged to hold the finals of the competition for the Smith, Millichamp and Pearce Cups on December 17. It was decided that, junior pupils be allowed to hold a fancy dress parade to commemorate V-J Day. Arrangements have been made for the annual picnic at Timaru to-morrow week. The chairman, headmaster and secretary (Mr G. Glassey) were appointed a Postponement Committee in case of wet weather. Messrs Glassey and R. J. Millichamp were appointed a Visiting Committee for December. A motion of sympathy with Mr J. Small and family in their bereavement was carried. Those present were Messrs Lowery (chairman), R, and S. Tarbotton, Smith, Harkness, Millichamp and Glassey.
