Mr R. P. Connell, Fields Superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, visited the Ashburton office of the Department to-day. The appointment of LieutenantColonel B. H. Wakelin as headmaster of Dilworth School, Auckland, is announced. He went overseas with the 3rd Echelon in 1940. —P.A. Sir Patrick Duff, High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, accompanied by Lady Duff, will leave Wellington on Thursday to fulfil engagements in Christchurch, returning to Wellington on Friday.—P.A. John Cunneen, son of Mr and Mrs M. D. Cunneen, of Wills Street, Ashburton, and a pupil of St. Joseph’s Convent School, has been awarded a boarding scholarship at St. Bede’s College, Christchurch. The Commissioner of Transport (Mr G. L. Laurenson) visited Ashburton this morning. He discussed the suggested appointment of a second Traffic Inspector at Ashburton with the ByLaws Committee of the Borough Council. Rear-Admiral D. W. Mitchell, a. supply officer of the United States Navy, has arrived in Auckland by air. Admiral Mitchell, who is making his first visit to New Zealand, will leave by air to-day for Wellington. He expects to spend about two months in the Dominion, during which time lie will be engaged in naval business concerning the United States Joint Purchasing Board. —P.A.
