FIRE AT PICTON.

TEN PERSONS HAVE NARROW ESCAPE. (P.A.) BLENHEIM, August 23. The Kiosk tearooms in Piclon were gutted by fire about A3O tins morning. Ten occupants of apartments on the top floor narrowly escaped being trapped, and all had to make a hurried exit in their night attire. One of them sprinted a quarter of a mile in his pyjamas to sound the fire alarm. the brigade arrived the building was blazing and the flames were spreading to the adjoining premises, but after a long fight the fire was brought under control. Nearly £IOOO worth of stock from the adjoining stationery shop of A. E. Greig was moved on to the street, but the shop was saved though badly damaged by heat and water.
