Cristofani, with a magnificent fighting century, gave Australia a fighting chance of averting defeat, but England’s batsmen, with 150 minutes left scored the necessary 141 runs comfortably. Cristofani, Australia’s eighth batsman, treated all the bowlers alike. He hit powerfully all round the wicket. Seven wickets were down for 86 when Cristofani came to the wicket. With Williams, who hatted for 90 minutes for 12, Cristofania added 95 for the ninth wicket.
