JAPAN’S NAVAL ECLIPSE.
REVEALING FIGURES. MANILA, Aug. 21. Rear-Admiral Forrest Sherman, in a broadcast said that Japan finished the war with a large well-equipped army and a considerable air force, but only 48 operational ships of a former total of 381. During the war Japan had 12 battleships, 21 carriers, 43 cruisers, 165 destroyers arid about 140 submarines. She now has no operational battleships, no carriers, no cruisers, 26 destroyers and 22 sea-going submarines, of which six were formerly German.
