X-RAYING VEINS.
Drs. Earl R. Miller and Mary B. Qlney (University of California Medical School) have extended and improved tlic technique of making X-ray pictures so that the blood supply of the heart and body structures may be studied. This enables the physician to diagnose congenital heart defects in children with higher accuracy and to determine whether or not an operation would do any good. Into the vein a chemical is injected, which is opaque to X-rays. A shadowgraph following this puncture outlines either the veins or the Malformations or obstructions show up clearly. So do the blood supplies of many tumors.
