one Offence at ashburton CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. At the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Mr G. G. Chisholm, two charges of theft, and on© of receiving stolen goods, were admitted by Edward Rycroft Wilding, a labourer, aged 26 (Mr J. K. Moloney). Wilding was charged with receiving ’from Raymond Douglas Johnston, on March 19, 60 4-gallon oil fuel coupons and a motor-car tyre valued at £6, the property of Gertrude Ryan and others, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained; the theft at Ashburton on May 31 of a tyre, tube, motorcar rim and a luggage carrier, Of a total value of £ll, the property of Norman Corbett; and the theft at Ashburton on May 31 of a 44-gallOn drum of petrol valued at £8 12s, the property of Donald David Green. Senior-Detective Sinclair prosecuted and said that two other men who were connected with the third offence had been dealt with at Ashburton', and % o?dered to pay £2 each in restitution. Wilding had suffered punishment ■whep he was the victim of an assault by one of his accomplices, submitted Mr Moloney. He had spent a fortnight in hospital. On the first charge, Wilding was fined £lO, on each of other other charges fined £2, and an order was made for restitution of £2 on the third charge.
