ST. JAMES THEATRE. Universal’s new mystery drama, “The Scarlet Claw,” based on the famous characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, will have its last showing at the St. James Theatre tonight, with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce in their usual roles. The picture is both ingenious and entertaining. The associate feature is “Tarzan’s Desert Mystery,” a new adventure with Edgar Rice Burroughs’ hero in the jungle. Johnny Weismuller, John Sheffield and Nancy Kelly play the leading roles. Another episode of the serial will also be shown to-niglit. Noted for his versatile ability to play 1 a wide variety of roles, Cary Grant is seen as a carefree, tricky but likeable gambler in his new RKORadio vehicle, “Mr Lucky,” which w’ill be the attraction at the St. James on Saturday afternoon and evening. His adventures in seeking a bankroll with which he can take his gambling ship, the “Fortuna” to South American waters and his stormy romance with a Park Avenue society girl lead to the suspenseful action of the film, which is said to be his best offering to date. Laraine Day has the feminine lead, and important roles are portrayed by Charles Bickford, Gladys Cooper, Henry Stephenson and the new comedy find, Alan Carney.
