BROADCASTING HOURS

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 31. A considerable reduction in broadcasting hours and an assurance that the Government was taking effective measures to deal with the deficiency in electricity supply by the installing of supplementary generating plant, were requested in a. message sent to Wellington by telegram by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. This action followed a conference called by the Chamber to discuss the electricity crisis and attended by representatives of the Manufacturers’ Association, Employers’ Association and electricity supply authorities telegrams reporting the conference decisions were sent to the Acting-Prime Minister (the Hon. W. Nash), the Minister of Works (the Hon. R. Semple) and the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan). It, was recommended that the broadcasting services should lie wholly suspended between 4 p.m. and 6 p.rn. from Mondays to Fridays inclusive.
