ST. JAMES THEATRE. “The Scarlet Claw,” latest of the Sherlock Holmes mystery features, screens at the St. James Theatre tonight and to-morrow night, with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce again cast as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Action of the story takes place m a small village near Quebec, where a 100-year-old legendary monster makes a mysterious reappearance and leaves murder in his wake. The two supersleuths set out to track down the monster with the reputation of a myth They discover him to be very real indeed, and very active. Holmes himself narrowly escapes death at his hands, and to save the lives of other intended victims it is necessary for the detective to work fast and accurately. How he uncovers the killer makes “The Scarlet Claw” a really thrilling, suspenseful picture. The associate feature on the current programme is “Tarzan’s Desert Mystery ” a mixture of romance, action and thrills laid in the Sahara. Johnny Weissmuller as Tarzan, Johnny Sheffield as “Boy,” and their friend Cheta the chimpanee, come down from the jungle into the dangers of the desert, in this action-packed adventure picture. What starts as a simple mission swiftly finds complications, as they rescue from enemy hands first a beautiful Arab stallion then a lovely American chorus girl stranded in an evil desert city. Another episode of the serial» will also screen to-night and to-morrow night. Saturday’s attraction at the St. James will be “Mr Lucky,” a comedy drama starring Cary Grant and Laraine Day.
