WAIPIATA PATIENTS.
SANATORIUM COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee was held in the Otago Hospital Board’s office, Dunedin, on May 24, there being present: Messrs E. Macdonald (chairman), J. Rodman, S. A. Stevens, W. C. Davis, T. Golden, J. W. Miller, R. Oakley, W. Sutherland and Dr. G. O. Dempster, representing the Department of Health. The Medical Superintendent (Dr. A. Kidd) reported that during April 40 patients had been admitted, 25 were discharged, and 142 were in the institution at the end of the month. The Medical Superintendent also submitted his report for the year ended March 31, 1945, which showsd that, excluding leave granted to patients and patients attending for artificial pneumothorax treatments, 111 had been admitted, three had died, and 95 were discharged, 85 (89 per cent.) of those discharged having the disease arrested or quiescent. Since the opening of the sanatorium in 1923, 198 G patients had been finally discharged. The secretary reported that on May 23 the Associated Boards had patients in the institution as follows: —Southland 74, South Canterbury 32, Ashburton 7, Waitaki IG, South Otago 7, Vincent 8, Maniototo 2 —a total of 14G. The secretary submitted statements of the committee’s receipts and payments for April showing that on April 30 there was a credit balance of £10,044 15s 3d, which included an amount of £IO,OOO invested on fixed deposit for capital works not yet commenced.
This being the last meeting of the committee as at present constituted, the chairman thanked members for their co-operation and assistance during their term of office and expressed the hope that all would be re-elected by their respective hospital boards.
