SIMPLE LIFE.
PROCLAMATION TO GERMANS > i (Rec. 2.0 p.m.) LONDON, May 30. t“My immediate object is to establish a- simple orderly life for the whole community,” states Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery in his first proclamation to the German people since his appointment as British representative on the Allied Control Commission. “The first step is to see that the population has food, housing and freedom of ideas. All this will mean much hard work for everyone. The German people will work under my orders to provide the necessities of life and restore the economic life of the country.” The proclamation states that all German servicemen are being sorted out by trades and occupations, and will quickly be discharged from the forces “in order to get on with the work,. The most urgent need is the harvest, for which reason agricultural workers will be, discharged. “The population will be told what to do, and I hhall expect it to be- done willingly and efficiently.” "
