BOXING.
THE ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION Final arrangements for the Ashburton representatives taking part in the Stevens v. Ross professional fight at Dunedin on the King’s Birthday were made at a meeting of the Ashburton Boxing Association last evening. The president (Mr A. W. Argyle) presided. The secretary (Mr G. V. Furby) reported that C. Hay, J. Britt, R. Plunkett and T. Tonks had been matched. Mr J. Weir was appointed manager and Messrs H. Lloyd and T. Pile trainers. The resignation of Mr W. Hagan was accepted with regret, and it was decided to send him a letter of thanks for his services as a member. The match committee reported that the following matches had been arranged for the tournament to be held on June 11: Jamieson v. Roulston, Horsburgh v. Hayston, Farmer (Christchurch) v. Hay, Plunkett v ; Miller (Air Force), Morris v. Fitzgerald (Timaru), Jones (Christchurch) v. Sparrow, Cross (Timaru) v. Miller, J. Pile v. Hardman, Tagi Lagi v. Ron Tonks (special bout of six rounds), Guthrie v. Batchelor (Timaru), Murfitt (Christchurch) v. Scheib, Britt v. Ennis (Timaru), Whiting v. Hawkey, Grice v. O’Grady, Purdon (Islington) v. Connor (Waimate), Dickenson (Waimate) v. Murfitt (Christchurch). Officials appointed were: General supervisor, Mr J. Weir,* referees, Messrs T. Fairhall, L. Adams and W. Lister; judges, Messrs A. W. Argyle, D. Smith, F. Crum, D. Lynch, and J. B. Cullen; officials seconds, Messrs A. Melrose, F. Kennedy, S. Willis and F. Ensor; time-keepers, Messrs G. Bowman and T. Hockings; announcer, Mr M. Cunneen; doctors’ stewards, Messrs H. Rainey and J. CrawTord; competitors’ stewards, Messrs J. Addis and J.. McGrath; glove and scale stewards, Messrs J« Moore, C. Gunning and G. Nutbrown; press steward, Mr R. Crum.
