Mr O. D. Riddell (irrigation officer for the Public Works Department) is spending tw r o weeks’ annual leave in the North Island.

The degree of Bachelor of Arts has been conferred by the University of New Zealand on Richard John Latimer (Victoria University College), of Ashburton.

Mr and Mrs J. Bland, of Winclimore, received cabled advice this afternoon that their son, Private J. S. Bland, who has been a prisoner-of-war for three years in Italy and Germany, has arrived safely in England.

A message of congratulation will be forwarded to Major-General L. M. Inglis by the South Canterbury Returned Services’ Association on his appointment as president of the Military Legal Court in Germany for the trial of war prisoners, according to a decision made an the annual meeting on Monday.

Signaller W. 11. Davis, younger sou of Mr and Mrs E. 11. Davis, of Ealing, who lias been a prisoner of war in Italy and Austria since November, 1941, is safe in England, according to cabled advice received by his parents. Signaller Davis was captured during the Libyan campaign. His brother was repatriated about three weeks ago.
