RED CROSS SOCIETY.

THE HIGHBANK SUB-BRANCH. The annual meeting of the Highbank sub-Branch of the Red Cross Society was held in the Highbank School, the president (Mrs E. A. Bland) presiding over a good attendance. The treasurer’s report showed’ a year of much progress. Donations to the Burwood Surgery Unit, Ashburton Centre of the Red Cross and prisoners of war fund, and various small sums amounted to £l5B, leaving a bank balance of £ll 17s Id. Mrs Harris, in charge of the knitting wood, reported that 41 balaclavas, two pairs sox, 10 pullovers and 16 pairs mittens had been knitted by members anrf handed hack to the Ashburton Wool Depot. Mrs Thomas (president of the Junior Red Cross) reported on the progress of the junior section. The market table in charge of Mrs E. J. Bland realised £4 2s Gd and the juniors table £1 15s. Harris; market table, Mrs E. J. Bland and Mrs J. W. Thomas; president Junior Red Cross, Mrs P. ,T. Ruck.
