AID TO RUSSIA

FACTOR IN RECENT SUCCESS.

FIGHTING ON OTHER FRONTS. NO SIGN OF NAZI COLLAPSE. (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright.) (Rec. 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 13. The United States Secretary for "War (Mr H. L. Stimson) said that the Soviet Army had been aided in its successes in the offensive in East Europe by British, French, and United States troops fighting Italy, by Partisans in occupied territories, and by the air offensive over Germany, as well as by the threat of invasion of Western Europe and the steady flow of supplies to Russia from the Allies. He gave a warning that there were no indications of a general deterioration of the German resistance. “The Germans seem to be retreating in good order, and the army is relatively intact,” he said. The Germans have made no attempt to conceal the gravity of their situation. It may even be exaggerated for purposes which are not clear.”
