Self-heating tins of soup, special tinned foods for jungle fighting, and tinned foods that help prisoners of war in Germany, were demonstrated to 300 men and women from food canning factories in London, with the object of conveying to them the importance of their work.
A War Office analyst demonstrated (he self-healing tins of soup. The soup is in tins which have fuses down the middle.
The demonstrator lit a fuse and within four minutes poured out piping hot soup. He- explained that the object was to provide hot drinks for troops fighting in cold conditions and unable to light fires. “It is a triumph of British skill. Both the Germans and Americans had previously tried it. The Americans are so impressed they have bought 1,000,000 tins,” said the demonstrator.
