THE DODECANESE

GREEK PARACHUTE TROOPS. LANDING ON SAMOS ISLAND. VALUABLE AID TO HARRISON. (N.Z. Press Association-—Copyright.) (Rec. 10.5 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 15. Greek troops of the Sacred Brigade; which has a “do-or-die” tradition reaching back 2000 years, have been dropped by parachute from R.A.F. aircraft on Samos. They added a new chapter to the history of the brigade by this operational landing on the island which is the nearest point to their homeland they have reached since leaving it. They brought valuable assistance to the British garrison on the island. A second contingent of the brigade came by sea. —British Official Wireless,

AERIAL BOMBING ATTACKS.

ONE HEINKEL DESTROYED. LAND AND SEA OBJECTIVES. (Rec. 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Nov, 14. “Long-range fighter sweeps and bombing attacks were carried out by the Royal Air Force in the Aegean area and over Leros throughout yesterday,” states a Middle East communique. “Explosions were caused at Cape Pantalia, Alinda Bay and Burna Bay, and fires, were started at other points. “One Heinkel 111 was destroyed by long-range fighters. “Our bombers attacked shipping in Suda Bay.

“Fighters on offensive patrols over Crete attacked many military targets, and the Heraklion airfield was bombed. Last night heavy bombers also attacked Maritza airfield (Rhodes). “Nine of our aircraft are missing.” —British Official Wireless.

ALLIES’ HOLD ON LEROS.

ENEMY'S SUBSTANTIAL LOSSES. (Rec. 10.5 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 15. Allied Headquarters in the Middle East States: “In both the central and the northern sectors of Leros our troops succeeded in improving their positions. Substantial losses continue to be inflicted on the enemy and a number of prisoners have been taken.” —British Official Wireless. GERMANS CUT ISLAND IN TWO. PARACHUTE AND AIRBORNE (Rec. 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 15. Leros is divided into three parts by two narrow necks of land about a mile across. The northern neck between Alinda Bay and Burna Bay was seized by German seaborne- parties from both sides and by parachutists landing in the middle. Landings were also made on the eastern side of the northern part, in the neighbourhood of Clidi ridge, and on Appetici promontory, which projects beyond the town of Leros on the eastern side of the central part of the island. The town of Leros is still in Allied hands, but the island is cut in two sectors by the Germans on the northern Isthmus. German domination in the air from neighbouring bases of Kos, Rhodes, and Crete continues to impose a heavy handicap on the British forces whose bases are a long way off. —British Official Wireless.
