GRAIN AND PRODUCE. SOUTH CANTERBURY MARKET. TIMARU, This Day. During flio last week inquiries have been received on the South Canterbury grain and produce ’market, for most lines. Oats, chaff and potatoes have been in steady demand, and they have met with a ready market. There have also been inquiries for eowgrass. Mother Italian ryegrass and uncertified Montgomery red clover of good purity and germination. Millers are at present fully supplied with wheat, 'and it is becoming difficult to dispose of any lines offering. Cartons, Algerian and Dun oats have been in demand, but very* few lines are offering. Dark Duns are quoted at 4s, Algerians at 3s 3d and milling Cartons at 3s (Id a. bushel.

Inquiries for chaff are again coming forward from the North Island, and nominal quotations remain at £5 a ton on trucks for g.b.o.s. There has been a little better inquiry for barley by intending growers at the increased price now being offered.

The majority of last season’s potatoes have disappeared, and only odd parcels are coming on to the market. The current fixed prices are: Sutton’s £lO 15s and Whites and Dakotas £lO 5s a ton; seed potatoes, Sutton’s £9 5s a ton, Whites and Dakotas £S 15s.

There has been a good inquiry for eowgrass, Mother Italian ryegrass and uncertified Montgomery red clover of high purity and germination. Current quotations conditional on quality and germination are as follow: Mother Italian ryegrass 11s 6d a bushel, mother ryegrass 13s, permanent pasture 12s a bushel, certified white clover 2s 3d per lb, permanent pasture Montgomery 2s 3d per lb, eowgrass Is per lb, and cocksfoot Is 3d per lb. ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET.' Concluding sales at the Ashburton stock sale yesterday were:.- — Ewes —On account of clients, 4 at 30s Id, G at 27s lOd, 2 at 32s lOd, 4 at 45s Id, 4 at 41s lOfl, 2 at 39s 4d, 1 at 37s Gd, 4 at 39s 7d, 2 at 29s lOd, 3 at 26s Id, 3 at 2Gs Id, 3 at 28s 4d, 3 at 34»'ld, 3 at 37s 7d. Stores —On account of clients, 98 ewe hoggets at 28s, 30 ni.s. hoggets at 25s 9d, 135 ewe hoggets at 30s Gd, G 4 ewe hoggets at 39s Id, 174 ewes and lambs at 12s. One hogget brought 37s Gd.
