OVER BRITAIN.
SOME CASUALTIES AND DAMAGE RAIDS ON SCATTERED AREAS. (Rec. 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 17. There was slight enemy, activity over the south coast of England early to-day states a communique issued by the Air Ministry and Ministry for Home Security. One enemy aircraft was destroyed by one of our fighters over the Channel Islands. —British Official Wireless. A few enemy aircraft crossed the English coast last night and some penetrated to the outskirts of London. * Bombs were dropped in widely-scat-tered places and some casualties and damage have been reported. Bombs were dropped on two places in the Home Counties early to-day. A number of persons were killed when a bomb hit a public house in southeast London. Three enemy aircraft were destroyed over Britain on Friday night when a few of them flew over parts of South-east England and Eq,st Anglia. Bombs were dropped on scattered points. Slight damage and a small 'number of casualties have been reported.
