SMUTS IN LONDON.
HINT AS TO HIS PROGRESS. (Rec. 9.50.) CAPE TOWN, Oct. 11. General Smuts will make a majoi contribution to the peace settlement. He will see that the peace is just. This reference in a. speech by the Minister of Finance (Mr Hofmeyer) to General Smuts’s presence in London is taken as a hint that one of the purposes of his visit is to assist in preparing for a peace settlement and the post-war reconstruction of Europe.
