Travel Concessions for Show—For the Ashburton Show the railway authorities have conceded travelling on the lines which will no doubt be ’much valued and extensively taken advantage of. Fares from Christchurch to Ashburton will be at the excursion figures of Ss 6d first-class land 6s 6d second. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From the “Guardian,” Oct, 11, 1918). Severe Frost at Metliven ■— Our Methven correspondent reports that a very severe frost for this time of the year was experienced at Methven last night, no less than six degrees being registered. This morning young vegetation and gardens suffered from the effects, but little ham was done to fruit trees, as they were hot far enough advanced.
