SEASON CONCLUDED.
ASHBURTON MUSICAL CLUB. The Ashburton Musical Club concluded its 1943 season on Saturday evening with a programme arranged by Mrs A. T. Smith and Miss M. Allan. Mrs Smith read an interesting paper on “Programme Music.” The d&scriptive programme included the following: Vocal solos, “The Loreley” (Liszt), Miss H. Brown; “The Erl-Ring” (Schubert), Miss M. Brown; “Withered Flowers” (Schubert), Mrs- C. O’Keefe; “Thy Beaming Eyes” and “0 Lovely Rose” (MacDowell), Miss S. Martin; “Silent Noon” (Williams), Miss Allan. Piano solos: “Norwegian Bridal Procession” (Grieg), Miss B. Brown; "To the Spring” (Grieg) and “The Legend” (Tschaikowsky), Miss B. Tucker; “Autumn” (Chaminade), Miss O. Beck; "Waltz” (Chopin) (Miss M. Kelly; “From an Indian Lodge” (MacDowell) and “Minstrel” (Debussy), Mrs S. IT. Curd; "A Rush Hour in Hong-Kong” (Chasins), Miss M. Jennings; “The Submerged Cathedral” (Debussy), Miss L. Lewis; “Ondine” (Ravel), Miss A. Ruddock. The accompanists were Misses L. Wiatt, Martin, Jennings, Lewis, and B. Brown, and Mrs H. Lane and Misses I. Turner and M. Sinclair were hostesses.
