THE THIRD SUCCESSIVE DAY. OBJECTIVES OVER WIDE AREA. (Roc. 9.35 a.m.) LONDON. July 28. Aircraft q[ the Fighter Command attacked enemy airfields for the third day in succession to-day. when a sweep on a largo scale timed to coincide with the raid by American Flying Fortresses on north-west Germany was made over areas in Holland, Belgium, and France, states the Air Ministry News Service. Besides giving protective cover to the limit of fighter, range as the Flying Fortresses flew in and returned American Thunderbolt and Spitfire squadrons went to escort Bostons that were bombing targets at Amsterdam, also the American medium bombers that were attacking an industrial plant at Zeebrugge. German fighters did not come up to interfere. Typhoons made excellent bombing attacks on tho airfields at Comtrai and Merville with 5001 b bombs. At Courtrni bombs exploded across the airfield and among the dispersal areas, and one burst on a railway siding nearby. At Merville n brilliant flash followed the explosion of several bombs on dispersal points. Other bombs fell across the airfield. Tho only Gorman fighters seen were observed by Spitfires as they met the Flying Fortresses returning south of Rotterdam.
