ORANGES IN ENGLAND.
A 77-vea r old British farmer, All* Alfred Bayley, is growing oranges and lemons in unheated greenhouses on Ins farm at Burnham, Buckinghamshire. “They are not really difficult to grow—just about the same as roses,’ was liis reply when asked how he did it. “They only need enough heat to keep the frost out.” It takes three or four years before the trees bear fruit, but Air Bayley . • now getting about a dozen oranges anti three dozen lemons a year. “They have a very good flavour,” he says.
Mr Bavley, who used to, farm in South Africa, obtained plants from there. Altogether bo lias nine varieties of oranges and three of lemons.
