LAST RESOURCES.
THROWN IN BY THE GERMANS.
AXIS LINE YIELDS AT POINTS.
(Rec. 9.50 a.m.) LONDON, April 28,
The latest news fiom the Tunisian front' indicates that General von Arnim is throwing in his last resources as the Allied forces advance irresistibly on Tunis.
In the Medjez el Bab sector the Ist Aimy is now two miles from Tebourba plain, says the Algiers radio. The salient forming the German defence line in this sector has become untenable. The Axis lines further north lias given way at several points. The Tunis plain is now open to British armour. Tank battles continue between Medjez el Bab and Goubellat, while the French have drawn closer to Pont du Fahs.
The French in the northern extremity of the front have reached a point seven miles west of Lake Achkel, which is 11 miles from Ferryville. They captured large quantities of booty. The enemy resistance seems to indicate that the Germans are creating a n/uv defence line. The Yichj’ radio, quoting a Berlin report, says that Lieutenant-General Anderson is regrouping, preparing for another assault in the Medjez el Bab and Bourada areas, where he lias succeeded in achieving some breaches of the Axis line. General Sir Bdrnard Montgomery is still waiting, arid will renew his attacks w’hen the battle in the north is raging again.—British Official Wireless.
