DECISIONS BY CONFERENCE.

WELLINGTON, April 28. , A recommendation by the . finance and policy committee that as the need 'tor revenue was so continuous no aI- <* teratiOns should be made in the present taxation system that would reduce revenue, was carried by delegates to the annual conference of the Labour Party to-day. It was agreed : however, to forward Remits urging investigation into the taxation system, with a View to certain readjustments, to the Government, for consideration. | The committee also recommended , that the appointment of a woman picture censor, stricter censorship, and the declaring of any form of secret police illegal be referred to the Government.
The following recommendations ref garding post-war. reconstruction and iland sales were' adopted.—“ That in 'providing,'for post-war reconstruction the Government be reqli'esf §cl ; to set ‘up a'coinmittee of experts to draw up plans, for the development of .secondary industries in order to ensure that workers who ‘ have been engaged in 'the'produ'ctidn ‘of inunitibfis are not /called on to suffer undue hardship during the‘transition from war to (peace-time economy”; “that the ‘conference. requests the Government immediately to investigate .the < present position regarding sales of land, with a view to controlling inflation of land •prices.” . A recommendation that' the possibility of making the family allowance universal be referred to the Government for favourable consideration was adopted. Fifty-two remits in-all, -dealing with health -and : social security - benefits, were considered by a special committee set up- by the' conference, the rec'bhiffien'dationa of the committee. -being adopted. It was recommended that consideration- of-the possibility of including osteopathic clinics and chiropractors within the social security scheme be deferred till such time as the . Government. was able to implement the social security scheme placed before the electors in 1939, that the Government consider iniproving' wages and conditions for nurses, and that the fime had not arrived for fhe abolition of hospital boards, but that they should, include nominees of the Government. It was also recommended that the institution of adult dental clinics be referred 1 to the Government for favourable consideration as soon as circumstances-.- permit, , that when ’ more dentists and nurses are available the operations, of the school dental clinics be extended to the pupils of all ‘schools,,-that.a State-maternity-home be established in all centres‘wherever the need is - evident, and that residential nurseries be instituted where possible..
