RED CROSS SOCIETY.
THE HIGH BANK ACTIVITIES. The third annual meeting of the Highbank Sub-branch of the Red Cross Society was held in the school, the president (Mrs E. M. Bland) presiding oyer a good attendance. The president welcomed Mrs Hopwood (president of the Tinwald Sub-branch).
Tho report revealed a very successful year’s progress. Monetary .donations had been given to the Ashburton Centre, the Sick and Wounded Fund, to the next-of-kin of two prisoners of war, and to the fund for a spinal chair to the Christchurch Hospital. A parcel of old linen serviettes and face flannels had been forwarded to Burwood Hospital. Knitted articles handed in during the year and forwarded to the Ashburton Centre included 32 pairs of sox, 19 pairs of mittens, 18 scarves, 2 pullovers, 18 balaclavas, aud 2 pairs of gloves. One parcel of second-hand clothing had been handed to the Lady Galway -fund at Ashburton.
Tho balance-sheet showed a credit of £77 16s sd. Votes of thanks were accorded the Highbank School Committee, Dir G. Currie (auditor), Mr J. W. Thomas, Mr D. Watson, Mr W. J. Owen and outgoing officers. The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr E. A. Bland; president, Mrs E. A. Bland; vice-presidents, Mesdamcs C. A. Campion, G. Currie, and J. W. Thomas; auditor, Mr G. Currie; secretary, Miss Edith Gilpin (re-elected); treasurer, Mrs C. H. Watson (re-elected); assistant-treasur-er, Mrs J. W. Thomas; committee, Mesdames E. J. Bland, G. Callaghan, W. Cain, T. Cleeve, E. Hyland, J. E. Harris, T. Gilpin, J. Letham, P. Ruck, R. Suckling, J. Rouse, A. Paul, D. Watson, H. Woods, F. Woods, S. Weily and A. Weilv; sales table, Mrs E, J. Bland alid Mrs W. Cain; wool distributors, Mrs J. Harris and Mrs J. W. Thomas.
Afternoon tea was served by members of the committee.
