FATAL STREET BRAWL.
DEATH OF AMERICAN SOLDIER. (P.A.) AUCKLAND,, Nov. 26. An inquest into the death of an American soldier, Corporal Norman E. Klopf, aged 32, single, of Bay City, Michigan, who was found in Cook Street, Auuckland, on the night of October 15 suffering from a fractured skull and who died on October 24, was conducted by the Coroner (Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M.). Evidence was given that after attending a party where most of the people were half-drunk, Klopf became involved in ian altercation in Cook Street, where he was struck by an unknown Maori. He fell and struck his head on the kerb.
A verdict that Klopf died from a fractured skull caused by either a blow or a fall when engaged in a drunken brawl with a Maori was returned.
