MEDICAL BENEFITS.

SPECIALIST TREATMENT. WELLINGTON, October 13. The position of claims under the Social Security Act for specialist treatment will be clarified during this session of the House of Representatives, as an amendment to the Act will be introduced by the Minister of Health (the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer). It is understood that claims by patients wlio have been attended by, specialists will be limited to 7s 6d a visit, the .same amount as is now givenfor general practitioner service.

The statement was made in Christchurch some time ago by the Minister that an amendment to the Social Security Act would he necessary to provide for payment for specialist services. Some difficulty has apparently been experienced in defining whether services given by a, doctor are special or general, and it will probably be overcome by the extension of the present payment for general practitioner service to visits to specialist^.
