' ST. JAMES THEATRE. “How Green Was My Valley,” which has drawn large audiences at: the St. James Theatre, will he screened finally this evening. The double-feature bill for to-mor-row night and at two sessions on Friday is headed by “New York Town,” a romance, of the great city and some of the people who live and work in it. Fred Mac Murray, Mary (“Kiss the Boys Good-bvo”) Martin and Robert Preston are the chief players. in this story of a man and a girl who set out to eat, di’ink and he merry on nothing a day. The second big picture is “Mr District Attorney and the Carter Case,” in which James Ellison and Virginia Gilmore are starred. It is another crime-detection story in the series that has become very popular with the many people who like a mystery to solve. The fourth chapter of “Sky Raiders” will be shown to-morrow night and on Saturday afternoon.

DOMINION CENTENNIAL FILM. The moving picture record of the proud .progress of New Zealand in the century since it became a. self-govern-ing country, “ One Hundred Crowded Years,’’ has been obtained by the Ashburton Borough Patriotic Committee, and .will he screened at the St. James Theatre on Sunday evening, wtien a charge of one shilling to all parts of the theatre will be made. All the proceeds will go to the;patriotic fund, audit is anticipated there will he a- full house. The film is also to .be shown at the St. -James Theatre on Monday morning and Monday afternoon for the school children, when the proceeds again will be given to the. patriotic funds. The film, which is accompanied by one or two- short films of an appropriate nature-, is an ably-produced record dealing with historical highlights in the 160 years of New Zealand’s- progress, and has been in big demand in many centres in. the /Dominion.
