KNOCK-OUT PUNCHES.
THE DEMOCRACIES READY. MR WENDELL WILLKIE’S VIEWS. (Rec, 2.30) CHUNGKING, Oct, 6. “We are ready to deliver some knock-out punches if I can believe my own eyes,” said Mr Wendell "YYillkie in a statement after Ihis fourth conference with Generalissimo Chiang Kaishek. “My personal opinion, is! that the time has come for an, all-out armed offensive everywhere.” Mr Willkie pointed out that his travels covered 13 kingdoms and governments. He found! four things common: to all: Firstly, they had' the desire to win; secondly, they Wanted an offensive now ; thirdly, they wanted independence -after the war ; fourthly, they wanted clear-cut renunciation of any imperialistic designs by western nations in Asia. In varying degrees the peoples of all 13 countries doubted the dependability! and 1 readiness of the leading democracies to insist on the freedom of others after the war. This doubt militated against enthusiastic co-operation in the war.
