Eight persons were killed and two are missing, while a number were injured when a British plane crashed last night into the middle of Somersham village, Huntingdonshire, wrecking six cottages and damaging others. . ; When the plane got into difficulties the crew baled out and landed safely. The crash caused a tremendous fire that was visible for miles. Firemen, Home Guardsmen, soldiers and airmen joined in the work of rescuing the injured and recovering bodies from the debris.

The plane cut; off the roof of one house, but. the occupants were downstairs and escaped. It then went straight through another house and crashed into a cottage on the opposite side of the street.
