TRIAL ON SATURDAY.
E.P.S. UNITS TO ACT. With tho possible exception of one or two branches, all units of the Emergency Precautions Services will take part in the trial to be held next Saturday afternoon. The alarm will sound at 3 p.m., and the all-clear will follow 20 minutes later. All personnel' will, however, continue on duty at their posts until dismissed. A number of persons who have enrolled in the E.P.S. but have not yet been posted to their units will be requested to act as “casualties.” When a meeting of the controllers was held last evening, some members expressed the opiniqn that the trial should have been held later in the afternoon, in order to avoid interferingwith sport, but it was pointed out that real emergencies were likely to occur at, any time, and that the organisation must he prepared. It was decided to hold a trial black-out at a later date. The District Controller (Mr P. B. Foote) will carry out an inspection of the trial. A trial will be held in Tinwald in conjunction with tho one in Ashburton.
