SMALL SUM SFOR WAR EFFORT. ON SALE FROM. NEXT WEEK. Sixpenny National Savings stamps are to be issued by the Government and will be on sale in shops throughout New Zealand next week. lhis has been announced by the chairman of the National Savings Committee (Mr T. N. Smallwood), who said the stamps were being issued in view of the ever-increasing necessity ot diverting funds to support the country’s war plans, particularly sma sums saved from current earnings, and in furtherance of the committee s poicy of providing every possible facility for saving. Mr Smallwood said that the stamps were being issued in one denomination only, 6d. A pocket-size folder to which stamps could* be affixed was being supplied to purchasers. At the option of the saver, when the 40 spaces on the card had been filled, the sum represented in stamps, £l, could be deposited in a National Savings account. When 35 spaces had been filled the card (plus Id) could be exchanged for a £1 National Savings bond, price 17s 7d; or when 10 spaces had been filled, for a 5s National Savings gift coupon. “Many retailers already have been approached and have agreed to keep the stamps for sale to customers,” added Mr Smallwood. “Their keen desire to support the scheme in the national interests is an inspiration and very much appreciated. As a result a very large number of shops will have savings stamps available on July 13, when the- scheme will officially open.” “Two savings stamps purchased by everyone each week from real savings will not only divert £4,000,000 to our war effort, but will also build up a tidy legacy for the savers to fulfil a constructive purpose when the war is won,” said Mr Smallwood.
