ABSURD CLAIMS.

TOKIO RADIO STATEMENTS, (Roc. 1.40 a.m.) CANBERRA, Mar. 4. The Minister oi' the Navy (Mr N. J. O'. Makin) to-day urged radio listeners to ignore Tokio broadcasts concerning their naval successes. Ho said they were fully exercising their faculty for imitation by slavishly copying German methods of propaganda and wholesale exaggeration. The latest instance, is Tokio’s absurd claim to .have sunk 23 Allied vessels in Netherlands East Indies waters, including two Australian cruisers.

;Mr Makin said it must be borne in mind that many wild statements by the enemy aimed at obtaining important information. The Australian 10 over nment had no intention of satisfying Japan’s curiosity, and therefore warned Commonwealth listeners to beware of Tolcio broadcasts and apply the proverbial grain of salt to anything and everything emanating from the Japanese.
