FIRST MEETING HELD.
THE UNITED BAND OF HOPE. The United Band of Hope under the auspices of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union held its first meeting in the Salvation Army Hall, presided over by Captain Spillett. The programme was provided by the Salvation Army Young People, trained by E. Pollock and S. Jackson. Mr H. Hayward led the singing of choruses. Members of the Girls’ Legion sang several company songs. Recitations and solos were given by children, Ruth Bennison played a pianoforte solo and C. Kirkman and R. Bennison sang a duet. Mr W. J. Brown gave an address. Votes of thanks to the performers were proposed by Mrs Robinson and Mrs Buchler.
