ST. JAMES THEATRE. TRACY INI “EDISON THE MAN.” Metro-Goldwyn-Mayers production oi “Edison the Man,” starring Spencer Tracy and now showing at St. James, is real entertainment. He led no armies into battle—lie conquered no countries —ho enslaved no peoples—yet he wielded a power the magnitude or which no warrior ever dreamed. He commands a devotion more sweeping in scope, more world-wide than any other living man—a devotion rooted deep in human, gratitude, and untinged by bias of race, colour, religion or politics. This democratic kindly modest being has bestowed upon the human race blessings instead of bondage, service instead or serfdom, construction instead of conquest. Supporting Tracy is a cast of fine performers, with outstanding portrayals turned in by Rita Johnson, who certainly will go places after this one, Lynne Overman, Charles Coburn, Gene Lockhart, Henry Travers, Felix Bressart and dozens of others. The latest cinesound news, itemised in to-night’s advertisement, and a “Passing Parade” highlight is a particularly praiseworthy programme.
