RENEWED VIGOUR
BATTLE IN LIBYA FLUCTUATES. ENEMY SUPPORT IN THE AIR. BRITISH DESTROY TANKS. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Rec. i. 0.50 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 25. A Cairo communique says: “It is now. established that during one phase of the fighting on Friday at least five enemy tanks were destroyed. On the folloftirig day confused fighting took place over a considerable area to the south and south-east of Antelat, 40 miles north of Agedabia. South-west of Sauhnu, 20 miles east of Antelat, a group of enemy tanks attacked during the morning by our artillery and infantry was dispersed. Enemy transport and tanks on the track from Jebabya to Antelat were successfully attacked by our aircraft, several vehicles being destroyed and fires started.” It is reported from Cairo that the battle in Libya is being continued with renewed vigour and fluctuating fortunes, but that General Rommel is unable to pierce the British defence of tanks,, splendidly supported by fieldguns arid 25-pounders. There has been hardly any change from the scene of the battle of the previous day,. which still funs south-east of Antelat to Sitiirihu, and where Guards and colonial troops are believed to be engaged with one of the enemy’s columns. ihe report states that the battle is not on such a large scale as that at Sidi Rezegh or others which were fought At tbe beginning of the British offensive, but it has been marked by the substantial air support given to ths German 1 tanks and artillery.—'British Gfficial Wireless.
