TRAVEL TO RACES.
THE USE OF MOTOR-CARS. ACTION TO BE TAKEN. WELLINGTON, Jan. 22. Motor-cars from a. distance were observed by the authorities going toward the race meeting at Trentham last Saturday, and inquiries are now being made of the owners of these vehicles about the source of their petrol supply, with a view to appropriate action. Another check is to be made of cars travelling from a distance on the second day’s racing. The Minister for Supply (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) stated to-night that on January 17, between 10 a.m. and noon, a number of cars were noted on the approaches to Wellington and travelling in the direction of the Trentham [race meeting. A number of these c-ars came from as far north as Dnunevirkc and Wanganui, and, would require from 10 to 12 gallons for the return trip.
“It is to he regretted that in spite of the appeals that have been made to conserve petrol for essential purposes, the owners of these vehicles have seen fit to waste oil fuel on pleasure running,” said the Minister. “Inquiries are now being made from the owners of these vehicles ns to the source from which they obtained, their petrol, and appropriate action will he taken. On the second day -of the meeting at Trentham, on January 24, it is hoped that persons travelling from a distance will make use of the railway or other public, facilities for travel, and will not contemplate a further waste of pro cions oil fuel. Arrangements are being made for a check on the registered number of ears travelling from a distance on that day,”
