Van Mook (Lieut.-Gover-nor-General of the Netherlands _ East Indies), broadcasting, urged the immediate dispatch of united air, naval, and land forces to tho East Indies and Malaya. declaring that their capture would mean the isolation of Australia and the loss of the best bases for coun-ter-attacking tho Japanese. “The East Indies and Malaya constitute a Avail botAveon the Pacific and Indian Oceans,” said Dr. Van Mook. “Once it is lost to the enemy Japan Avill be able to close the Burma road and also threaten communications Avith the Middle East and Russia through the Persian Gulf and the Bed Sea.”
