NOW 400 ARRESTED.
POLICE IN SOUTH AFRICA. SABOTAGE PLOTS DISCARDED. (Rec. 1.10.) CAPE TOWN. Jan. 21. Four hundred policemen are now detained on suspicion of subversive activities. The Minister for Justice ((Mr C. Steyn) declared that a smashing blow lias been dealt against the subversive movement. The mass arrests followed the discovery of plots of sabotage at flic goldmines and war industries. Military and civil guards are replacing the arrested men. It is expected that the purge will be extended to other Government departments.
