WAVELL IN JAVA.
RECEPTION ON ARRIVAL LONDON, January 20. The story is told from Batavia of the arrival of General Sir Archibald Wavell to take up his post as Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in the South-West Pacific. General Wavell arrived in a Lockheed Hudson aeroplane, accompanied by staff officers and his second in command, Major-General G. H. Brett. Among those who received him were the Commander-in-Chief of the Allied naval forces in the Far Bast (Admiral T. C. Hart), Admiral Sir Geoffrey Layton, Commander-in-Chief of the British Far East Fleet, and LieutenantGeneral H. ter Poorten, the Netherlands commander.
General Wavell was reported to be looking fit and well.
